“The one and only feature of Hip Hop is the break beat. No one has defined it that I know of outside of the countless examples. Break beats are found in Rock records, Mickey Mouse records, Country, anywhere. The way you can recognize it is your neck will start dancing.. if you got soul.

Now look at early Rock and Roll vs Metal. Unrecognizable as the same “genre”. The difference, metal is almost completely Europeanized. The tempo is crazy high and the sound is anything but ‘smooth’ or ‘chill’. Compare early Hip Hop to Dub Step. Again, the latter is almost made to be unpleasant to the senses.

‘Trap Music’ is basically Hip Hop at a Disco tempo. Understandable. Seems like Southern Hip Hop was always more geared toward ass shaking women since Luke. That’s why the de-emphasis on lyricism, your entire cadence has to change to rhyme to 120 bpm vs the traditional East Coast 90 bpm (which is perfect to rap to, but not as dancer friendly).

Since both Techno (which is all ‘EDM’ and other white dance music subgenres are) and “Trap” both aim for the dance crowd, of course they have similar features but the street shit has that groove, that bounce. The techno version wants to capture the funky element but the Europeans instinctivly pave over the funkiness.

Gentrification brehs. Euros always talking like they are discovering some shit.

I am not an advocate of ignorant bullshit BUT ‘Trap’ music and Techno music do not belong together. Musicwise it’s whatever but you can’t seriously tell me that some suburban white kids would even survive a trip to the heart of the real Trap scene… Shiiit, my black ass is not hood enough for a Gucci Mane show in a grimy hood spot. Likewise, let 15 tear the club up thugs into your Rave (or whatever they call it in 2013). Once a couple white boys get stole on they’ll see the subtle differences.” - Ghost Utmost

Madlib’s stoned, brick carrying cartoon alias Quasimoto got a certificate of recognition from the city of Los Angeles, signed by the Mayor and the 13-person city council. They cite his “excellence in masonry.” Some city governments spend all their time worrying about financial problems, education and transportation — props to the City of L.A. for keeping their priorities straight.

MF - Yeah, yeah, that cat for instance. Like he’ll write a story, and play in the movie! Like in that Dusk Till Dawn shit. He played a ill motherfucker! And that’s the audio and visual. But that doesn’t necessarily mean he’s like that in real life. That’s one thing that should be known inhip-hop, that you’re an artist. We paint pictures, like you might have an idea for a story, and put that into a song, but the artist that did the song is not the actual character that’s in the song. That should be known. It’s like an ill fiction novel, Sidney Sheldon or some shit.
